Running an Independent Small Business - often a specialty retail store or independent restaurant - is a calling like no other.  Small Businesses are incredibly entrepreneurial, passionate, and deeply invested in their communities.  They support local Schools, advertise in local papers, pay their taxes, create most of the new jobs in this country, and try to make enough at the end of the day to keep the lights on. 

For Americans, Small Businesses are a central part of our lives: most of us work in small businesses, we shop for fun at independent retailers, enjoy dining with friends at independent restaurants, and enjoy the innovations pioneered by innovative entrepreneurs.  Independent Small Businesses are the heart of America.

For the past 6 1/2 years, as Director of U.S. Retail for the Microsoft Corporation and a Business Development Consultant, I've worked to help retail and restaurant entrepreneurs maintain their independence and compete with the big chains.  Before that, I worked with innovative technology startups to bring their vision and dreams to the marketplace.  Working with the best partner channel in the business, using innovative technology, sound financial strategies, and smart information strategies, we’ve worked to help entrepreneurs effectively run their businesses AND maximize their success. 

I've had the privilege of attending, presenting, and learning at dozens of major small business events events a year.  Over the course of my career, I've had the opportunity to work with literally thousands of Independent Small Businesses and dig into their businesses, issues, and barriers to success.

Unfortunately, what I've learned is that American Small Business is under siege – independent entrepreneurs are hammered by the economy, unfair tax burdens, and oppressive government regulation and mandates.  To government bureaucrats, your business is a piggy bank and you're the easiest target for 'change.'  It’s time to do something about it.
